Score 88/100 · Drink 2019-2027, Neal Martin, Sep 2019

The 1999 Langoa Barton has a vibrant bouquet of lifted black cherries, fig, black olives and a marine scent that becomes more intense with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, perhaps having lost a little vigor in recent years. Grippy, dried-out tannins lead to a tarry finish. I would drink bottles sooner rather than later. This showed better a few years ago, and it seems to be in graceful decline. Tasted from an ex- château bottle at the estate.

Deep, healthy crimson. Quite complex. Well balanced and lively. Dancing. Fleshier than the Léoville. Good wine! (JR)

Quite opulent nose. Lots of fruit, not much structure. A little formless but nice and ripe and juicy. A bit too evolved? (JR)
