The 1962 Ausone showed reasonably well at the vertical tasting four years ago, but this example has a light and tertiary nose that lacks a bit of fruit. The palate is light and simple, with fine tannins and an attenuated finish that doesn’t posses the roundness I remarked upon before. In this tasting, the 1962 is a bit run-of-the-mill. Tasted at the 1962 dinner in Burgundy.

The 1962 Ausone is a vintage that I have tasted on two occasions, though not since 2010. It sported a ferrous nose with resinous aromas, tinged by pressed flowers. The palate is balanced if just a little rustic in style, the season imparting a pleasant roundeur though it is a vintage outmanoeuvred by both the 1961 and 1964 either side (and this is from a huge fan of the underrrated 1962s). Well preserved bottles can still be consumed, although I would approach them with modest expectations.
