Magnum. Lots of fine grainy sediment. Rather suave nose with marked acidity but a good charge of ripe, well-balanced fruit and a suggestion of balsam. Really needs food – the roast beef is on its way. I expect it to flower a bit in the glass. Savoury and well intentioned. (JR)

Mealy and rather ordinary. Not one of the most soaringly convincing 2000s. (JR)

Somewhat closed and monolithic, this deep plum/ruby/purple-colored wine has notes of blackberry, chocolate, espresso, and vanilla in the tight but emerging aromatics. It is medium-bodied, elegant, pure, but may not quite have the depth, sweetness, and overall volume of the 2001. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2019.
