The 2021 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is limited to just two barrels because of the frost (there were six in the previous two years). This is partly because of degenerative rootstock that they attribute to a lack of potassium provided by water. It has a taut, linear, crushed rock and raspberry scents bouquet that gradually unfurls in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, lightly spiced, hints of white pepper and sage that dovetail into quite a gourmand finish. Complex, focused and very persistent, this should evolve into a very fine Ruchottes.

Suffering from the frost on the one hand and the failure of 161-49 rootstock on the other, the 2021 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru came in at a negligible nine hectoliters per hectare. Wafting from the glass with notes of sweet red berries, plums, petals, orange rind and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with powdery structuring tannins and a long, floral finish.
