Score 86/100 · Drink 2013, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

The 2011 Bourgogne Rouge comes from three parcels of vines. It has a lovely cranberry and raspberry leaf bouquet that is well-defined, delicate and natural. The palate is underpinned by light tannins, fresh crisp red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity and a mild-mannered finish that does not outstay its welcome. Fine early drinking Pinot Noir. Drink now. Claude Dugat guided me through his 2011s on a blissful July morning, the flowers in such bloom that at one point he questioned whether I was wearing any scent. For the record, I have never worn aftershave in my life. Claude’s wines are deftly made, occasionally lifted by the new oak to the extent where I feel less would be more, but still highly enjoyable. The 2011 Bourgogne jumps from the glass with striking aromatics and bright red fruit, all supported by vibrant acidity. This is an absolutely delicious Bourgogne to enjoy over the next few years.

A ripe, fresh and overtly fruity but not simple nose combines aromas of warm earth and various red berries. There is good richness to the round and delicious flavors that possess an unusually silky texture, all wrapped in a complex, balanced and solidly persistent finish for the appellation. Worth considering. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2014+
