Score 90/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2017

The second wine of the estate and made from just about all Cabernet, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard offers classic, Saint Julien-like notes of crème de cassis, sandalwood, lead pencil and spicy oak. Medium to full-bodied, nicely balanced, with ripe tannin, it's going to improve with short-term cellaring and keep for 15-20 years. It improves with time in the glass so don't be afraid to give it an hour in a decanter if drinking anytime soon.

Classicist Philip Togni’s second wine, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard, is 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and displays classic crème de cassis, cedar wood and underbrush in a medium-bodied, nicely textured style There’s plenty of fruit, the tannins are ripe, and the wine is a dense ruby purple in color. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard is an attractive wine, although the effects of the drought are felt in the wine's somewhat stressed personality and roasted fruit profile. Savory, ripe and expressive, the 2014 Tanbark Hill is a pretty Cabernet to enjoy over the next handful of years.
