Score 93/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Robert Parker, Jun 2015

A gorgeously dense ruby/purple-colored wine, the 2005 La Fleur de Boüard is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged nearly 20 months in new oak. A big wine (14% alcohol), it is rich, concentrated, full-bodied and performs far above its official pedigree. It can be drunk over the next 10+ years.

Leafy fresh dark fruit. Classic claret nose. Touch of cedar. Fine-grained, hovering between light and elegant, dry tense finish. (JH)

Intense sweet ripe damsons with edge of liquorice. Dense and moreish, with fine firm tannins – just a little bit thick on the palate at the moment, but freshness comes through the toasty finish. (JH)
