(from .08 ha of vines on the Chassagne side). This is quite firmly reduced and revealing nothing of interest today. By contrast, there is equally outstanding volume, size, weight and muscle to the broad-shouldered flavors that brim with sappy dry extract while displaying the most power of any wine in the range on the superbly long and impeccably well-balanced finale. The Bâtard is first-rate but there is just another dimension here, both in terms of depth but also just class.

This year, there are two barrels of the 2023 Montrachet Grand Cru, both one year old. The nose initially shows quite a bit of reduction, but it recedes with time, revealing wonderful crushed stone/oyster shell scents mingling with yellow plum. The palate is very harmonious, vibrant and full of energy with a pitch-perfect line of acidity, weight and density toward the finish, but so, so elegant. This is wonderful.
