Tasting notes
Situated in the western foothills of the vineyard, this wine comes from a well-drained two-acre block facing roughly north-south. Made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2008 Tor Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Clone 6 is medium to deep garnet colored and gives exuberant notes of redcurrant jelly, blackberry pie and plum preserves with touches of smoked meats, sautéed herbs and spice box with a waft of dusty earth. Full-bodied, rich and spicy, with a wonderfully velvety texture, the palate delivers a decadent experience with just enough freshness to keep you coming back for more. 207 cases were made.

(14.5% alcohol): Medium ruby. High-toned, liqueur-like aromas of cassis, flowers, graphite, licorice, shoe polish, minerals and tropical bitter chocolate. Wonderfully silky and fine-grained, with very ripe, intense dark fruit and chocolate flavors enlivened by a higher-pitched floral element. A bit more exotic that this producer's Clone 337 version but supported by a firm underpinning of acidity and minerality. Finishes with suave tannins, a sexy note of bitter chocolate and excellent subtle persistence. Still youthful and evolving slowly.
Full ruby-red. Black raspberry, licorice and a floral perfume on the nose, along with a light dusty nuance. Juicier and less weighty in the mouth than the Clone 4, with lovely perfume and intensity and a seamless texture. There's a floral lightness here that's downright feminine and pinot-like. But the wine's firm tannins and medicinal reserve suggest it will enjoy a slow evolution in bottle. I would not be surprised to see this earn a score at the high end of my projected range.
