Score 18.5/20 · Drink 2025-2029, Jancis Robinson MW, Jun 2025

This would apparently have been made by the current winemaker Charles Symington's grandfather, Peter Symington's father. Charles blended this wine for his father's 80th birthday so when the 80-year-old category was approved recently, he had just the wine ready for it. Ready to enjoy with the taste of sweet prunes, nuttiness and lots of, but not excessive, acidity. Transparent, dramatic and very persistent. Quite a marvel! How many wines could withstand 80 years in wood? Possibly the odd madeira. (JR)
