Pale ruby with more development at the rim than the Échezeaux has. Light, sweet, bonbon nose. Hint of violets. Delicate and sweet and with sufficient fruit to cover the tannins. Great balance. Very flattering – the most forward DRC 2001 red. Finishes firm. Charm on the finish even if it finishes dry. A little softer than most DRC 2001s. The easiest to appreciate. Some sweetness. (JR)

Much more attractive than the Échezeaux with much riper warmer fruit on the distinctly autumnal nose. This lacks perfect clarity and definition and again is notable for the acidity but it has much more weight and grip and structure than the Échezeaux and quite a fan of flavours on the finish. I think this should make an agreeable bottle eventually. (JR)

Mid crimson with a broad pale rim. Heady, truffley nose. Very sumptuous and majestic – so velvety and flattering. Then on the palate quite stern with the fine tannins quite obvious. A little lean at the moment. Not to be drunk for a while. Nosing it after the 2000 it seems more in the moss register and less in the fruit. Lots of acidity which may never mellow, although it may well surprise us. Hence the + sign. (JR)
