The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a succinct, focused bouquet replete with exquisite red cherry, cranberry, crushed stone and persimmon. The palate is very well balanced, displaying supple tannin and a patina of new oak awaiting to be assimilated, but there is real substance to this Les Cazetiers, and it fans out with confidence on the finish. Give this several years in bottle and you will possess a very serious and delicious Cazetiers. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

From bottle, the 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is reserved but full of promise, opening in the glass with a reticent bouquet of cassis, cherry, plum preserve, orange rind, coniferous forest floor and nicely integrated smoky new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, velvety and beautifully balanced, with a sappy core of fruit, good concentration and excellent energy. While this is firmly shut down at present, its structural refinement and vibrancy bode very well for the future.

Full medium red. Highly complex but reticent aromas of black raspberry, dark cherry, mocha, licorice, animal fur and warm stones. Wonderfully sweet, plush and thick but without any heaviness. Perhaps a bit featureless in the middle palate compared to the Charmes but this wine is more primary and built for a slow evolution in bottle. The raspberry and spice flavors are complemented by a licorice element that continues through the very long finish. This very young wine can't match the Charmes for finesse but its tannins are quite suave.
