Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, the 1999 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses has a beguiling bouquet that is a heady mixture of red and black fruit, blueberries and tobacco mixed with black truffle. This explodes rather than unfurls from the glass. The palate has impressive weight and girth that is counterbalanced with freshness and poise. This is an intense Amoureuses that steadfastly refuses to hold anything back. Garish? No, not really, though it is certainly one of Drouhin's more ostentatious Amoureuses that is keen to be noticed. More a sensory than cerebral experience compared to others tasted during this vertical. Tasted November 2015.
