Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru feels a little simplistic on the nose for a grand cru, a subtle ash-like scent developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, a rather rough-hewn Echezeaux that feels a little austere towards the finish. Hopefully it will flesh out with time -- it did not seem to gain substance in the glass. Tasted September 2016.

Gentle, ripe strawberry with a dash of complementary vanilla oak and a very soft palate. Elegant and dainty – but at a significant price! (RH)
