Tasting notes
The ruby-colored 1998 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fremieres displays scents reminiscent of black cherries, violets, and roses. This well-structured wine is medium-to-full-bodied, feminine, and satin-textured. Its long finish reveals notes of sweet, charred oak. Drink it over the next 7 years. Bright ruby-red. Pure, minerally aromas of blackberry, strawberry, raspberry and violet pastille. Dense, stony and sweet; this offers lovely vibrancy as well as a seductively round, seamless texture. Finishes with very suave tannins and terrific length. In its best vintages, like this one, Leroy's Fremières strikes me as distinctly Musigny-like, even though this village parcel is a good kilometer north of Musigny.
About the producer

For many, Domaine Leroy represents the pinnacle of fine Burgundy. Owned and run by the legendary Lalou Bize-Leroy, the domaine in Vosne-Romanée is one strand of the Leroy empire, along with Maison Leroy and Domaine d’Auvenay.
