Score 85/100 · Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Apr 2013

Deep brown in color and a bit cloudy, the 1985 Hill of Grace has sweaty saddles notes over dried cherries and menthol-laced / medicinal notes. Very tart, crisp and hard, it has chewy bordering on astringent tannins and barely any fruit left on the palate. I have scored it purely on interest factor and because it remains a generally pleasant glass, though it is past its best. Importer: Negociants USA, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 259-0993

Cool season. Mid ruby. Something just a tad cheesy on the nose. Quite direct and vital. Very fluid, lightly salty fruit. Only medium bodied. Slightly sudden end. A little bit of decay. Very marked acidity. Maybe a blend of 1984 and 1985 would work better than either individually? (JR)

Dark crimson. Very subtle but quite appetising nose. Rich, full-blooded impact on the palate with some dry tannins persisting. Far from graceful though with food it could certainly provide lots of pleasure. Dry, inky finish. (JR)
