Marked oak on the nose and the oak dominates the palate too – shame because there's probably some freshness of fruit underneath. Dry but smooth texture. (JH)

One of the most successful wines in the Moulis-Listrac appellations, Poujeaux (owned by the Cuvelier family, also the proprietors of the impressive St.-Emilion estate of Clos Fourtet) has turned out a surprisingly good wine in 2011. Its dark ruby color is followed by sweet plum, black cherry and currant fruit, no herbaceousness, a medium-bodied, elegant mouthfeel, and noteworthy purity. Drink this tasty, mid-weight Moulis over the next 5-6 years.

Much less blue than many 2011s. Peppery nose and with lots of acidity. Pretty mean! (JR)

Greyish deep crimson. Sweet plummy fruit with oak spice overlay and then a darker more savoury aroma that adds complexity. Just slightly dusty. Fine, powdery tannins at first but finishes a little too dry for comfort. (JH)
