Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard opens with crème de cassis, blueberry tart and boysenberries with touches of dried mint, lilacs and star anise plus a waft of bay leaves. Full-bodied and yet surprisingly elegant and vibrant in the mouth, the plush texture beautifully frames the bags of black fruits and floral sparks, finishing long.

A huge array of crème de cassis, blueberries, flowers, and spicy, sandalwood-like characteristics emerge from the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb, which has more than a passing resemblance to a great vintage of Château Margaux. Showing more tobacco and herbal characteristics with time in the glass, this full-bodied, multi-dimensional, seamless 2016 has everything you could want from a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy it over the coming 20-25+ years. The entire lineup from Rivers Marie is stunning across the board and readers really can’t go wrong here.

Time has been kind to the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb, a wine that is positively stellar today. Dark and explosive, with tremendous energy, the 2016 has so much to offer. Beams of tannin give the 2016 a backbone of energy and structure that will allow it to develop nicely in bottle for many years to come. Thomas Brown and his team crafted a striking wine that captures the essence of one of the most singular sites in Napa Valley.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb is a new wine in the Rivers-Marie range. Herb Lamb is a striking hillside site off Mund Road in northern Saint Helena that directly faces Howell Mountain. The most famous wines from this site are the Cabernets Helen Turley made for Ann Colgin in the mid 1990s. Needless to say, it is going to be fascinating to see what Rivers-Marie comes up with here. The 2016 is dense, tightly wound and powerful, with intense savory and mineral notes that are front and center. Formidable tannins give the wine a sense of weight and gravitas that is impossible to miss. The 2016 clearly needs time in barrel to fully come together, but it is hugely promising.
