Tasting notes
The 2003 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone is soft with plenty of kirsch liqueur and raspberry notes in a sweet, broad, savory style. The aromas and attack suggest immediate drinkability but then some moderately hard tannin kicks in in the finish. This wine is full-bodied, impressively concentrated, but needs 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep 12-15 years. Importer: Martine’s Wines, Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-0400

About the producer

Ch. Rayas is a cult name in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines – pure, silken expressions of Grenache with distinctive perfume – are revered for their singularity and fiercely collected. Made by Emmanuel Reynaud and renowned for their ageability, they have become some of the region's most sought-after.
