Tasting notes
The 2000 Barolo Brunate shows the classic elegance of Nebbiolo from this vineyard, dense, velvety flavors, and notable spice and complexity as well. Drink over the next decade. Importer: Remy Amerique, New York, NY; tel. (212) 424-2202

As I have noted previously, the 2000 vintage offers wines that are amazingly open at this stage in their youths and most of these Brunate Barolos can be enjoyed today, although some wines may require more oxygenation. The wines were tasted blind and are listed in the order tasted. 2000 Ceretto Barolo Brunate—Beautiful nose of crushed raspberries, menthol, cocoa, anise, tar and toasted oak aromas. This well-balanced medium-bodied Barolo shows plenty of very ripe red fruit with good concentration and length. A very elegant and stylish modern Barolo.
Medium red. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, cherry, iron, dried rose and woodsmoke; oakier today than the Bricco Rocche Bricco Rocche. Then floral and high-pitched, with juicy flavors of redcurrant, strawberry, mocha and rose petal. Very suave if rather oaky Barolo. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and notes of tobacco leaf and underbrush.
Exciting, open, smoky fireworks nose. Full bodied and more approachable than most although the finish is so chewy it's almost severe. (JR)
