The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Pucelles Cuvée Centenaire 1er Cru has a sunny bouquet, a vin du soleil with upfront popcorn and pineapple scents, perhaps not expressing the terroir as well as others in this flight, and suggesting premature oxidation. The palate has commendable weight and density and a lot of extract. The finish does suggest some premox so I will not rate this. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Pucelle "Cuvée Centenaire" 1er Cru, a limited production of 100 bottles and 100 magnum of 70-year old vines, is released to celebrate 100 years since Jean-Michel Chartron’s great-grandfather bought the vineyards. It has razor-sharp precision on the nose. There is a bigger difference here compared to the regular bottling that I predicted. The palate is very precise and poised, with a killer line of acidity and a little more salinity than the regular bottling. You can feel the mouth tingling after the wine has departed. Stunning.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle displays a lovely bouquet of fresh peach, yellow orchard fruit, beeswax and white flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and broad shouldered, with lovely depth at the core, fresh acids and a long, expansive finish. It's an especially complete wine this year. Chartron will also be releasing a small barrel selection as a "Cuvée Centennaire" to commemorate the acquisition of this clos in 1917.
