The 2002 Gevrey-Chambertin Villages from Dugat is an absolutely superb village wine, opening up in the decanter with a complex bouquet of dark berries, meaty Gevrey soil tones and (at age fifteen) a beautifully integrated framing of new oak. On the palate, the wine is deep, concentrated, full-bodied and still very youthful, with terrific amplitude and refined, savory tannins. This bottle could have easily continued to improve for five or six years.

Full ruby-red. High-pitched, wonderfully vibrant aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice, menthol, leather and game. Juicy, brisk and tightly wound, with sharply delineated flavors of black fruits, licorice, menthol and fresh herbs. This has real sap, as well as superb length for a village wine.
Deep ruby-red. Precise, lively aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, licorice and smoky oak. Ripe, dense and tightly packed, with black raspberry and chocolate flavors and solid underlying structure for village wine. Offers a captivating sugar/acid balance. Finishes long and ripely tannic.
Expressive, wonderfully complex, fresh and earthy fruit is followed by delicious, middle weight flavors whose intensity builds from the mid-palate and flowers on the long back end. Excellent quality at this level and the only small nit is a touch of finishing gas - be sure to decant this for 15 to 20 minutes first. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan, 2005
