Full medium red. Ripe, highly aromatic nose combines redcurrant, cherry, tobacco, spices and dried flowers. Wonderfully seamless and sweet but with powerful underlying minerality giving the middle palate almost shocking energy. This fruit bomb has the saline depth and floral lift, not to mention the firm spine of tannins and acidity, to ensure a long life in bottle--especially for a village wine! A hint of orange zest on the end only amplified the impression of vibrancy.

The 2015 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Charmois was a little tight-fisted and recalcitrant when I tasted it from barrel, possibly because it had only just finished its tardy malolactic fermentation. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red cherries, wild strawberry and a pinch of sea salt, focused with good grip, leading to a vibrant, quite peppery finish. Enjoy this over the next 12-15 years.

(20% new oak): Moderately saturated medium red. Cedary oak and minty high tones lift the aromas of cherry and redcurrant. Supple flavors of redcurrant, cherry and savory spices are complicated by hints of leather and earth. Firmly tannic and sweetly spicy on the aftertaste. This should provide early pleasure but has the spine for mid-term aging.

Reduction presently dominates the nose though there is good freshness to the round and exceptionally rich middle weight flavors that possess a suave mouth feel, all wrapped in an utterly delicious, well-balanced and lengthy finish. This well-balanced effort should age well yet drink well young too. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
