I have not tasted the 2003 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon for a number of years, but looking back, perhaps I was a bit mean in my evaluation. It handles the warmth of that infamous season capably on the nose with light honeysuckle and waxy aromas (not unlike the Nuits Saint Georges Clos de l'Arlot Blanc 2007 tasted alongside.) The palate is medium-bodied with commendable acidity and it comes across more like a very decent Sonoma Chardonnay than Puligny-Montrachet. That's not a criticism, rather an observation. Drink over the next 4 or 5 years.

Very pale yellow. Peach and its skin and mint on the slightly exotic, warm nose. Quite round for this bottling, with distinctly exotic lichee and licorice notes. Finishes a bit dry, with a slight alcoholic burn.

The mineral-infused aromatics of the 2003 Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon (white) lead to an elegant, feminine, medium-bodied personality. This satin-textured wine is suave, well-focused, and sports a delightful flavor profile filled with minerals, sage, thyme, and spices. Projected maturity: now-2012.
