2021 Suertes del Marques Vidonia

The second vintage of the Listán Blanco from the lieu-dit Las Suertes is the 2021 Vidonia V.P. It fermented in new 500-liter Stockinger barrels, where the wine matured for 11 months, which gives it a more Burgundian profile. It has 13% alcohol, a low pH (3.03) and good acidity (6.6 grams of tartaric). This feels superb, complex, elegant and balanced, with notes of toasted sesame seeds, ashy and flinty. There's less ripeness here, and the wine feels very fresh and harmonious. 2,660 bottles were filled in September 2022.

100% Listán Blanco. Centenarian ungrafted vines. VP stands for viñedos propios (own vineyards). Hand-harvested. Destemming and light pressing to use just the free-run must. Alcoholic fermentation with ambient yeasts in new 500-litre oak barrels from Stockinger. Aged on its lees in these barrels for 10 months. Jonathan García likes Colin-Morey wines, with good acidity and oak that does not invade but refines. He considers the Stockinger cooperage to be suitable for this profile. Tasted blind. A touch of struck match gives way to toasted notes and a very complex nose. A complete wine, with a rich umami sensation and a full mouthfeel. A lemon-candy sensation as well. Very good elaboration and depth. Exotic and delicate touch at the back palate – what fabulous integration of oak! (FC)
