Score 18/20 · Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, May 2015

Founded 1913, Portuguese house. Good year for port, hot summer. Concentrated and high sugars. Barros tends to have high sugar compared with Kopke and Burmester. Single harvest. Bottled 2 weeks ago. Greenish brown colour. Complex nose – savoury caramel, polished wood. Nutty. And then really nutty on the palate – walnut and more like a madeira flavour. There is sweetness but it barely tastes sweet. Very long. With time in glass, there's some coffee and vanilla. (JH)
