The 2000 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is in full flight at the moment. It plays a clever reduction on the nose, enhancing its tension with dried honey, grilled walnut notes and chamomile. The palate is full of suspense and grace, delivering the weight you expect from this Grand Cru, waxy textured with ample extract on the finish. This is superb and drinking perfectly now.

Lots of green fruit flavours and even a whiff of blue cheese, amazingly enough. Distinctly astringent at the moment and at this stage rather jagged and uncomfortable to taste. (JR)

Closed nose (very long fermentation even up to August, according to the mild-mannered Rémi Rollin). Layers of blossom, nuts, smoke and lemon. A true Corton-Charlemagne with ambition and passion even if not the creamiest. Bottled November 2001. (JR)
