Refined and intense but with real sophistication. Sumptuous. And with fine tannins for the future too. (JR)

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Clos des Réas 1er Cru, Michel Gros’s monopole , was matured in 50% new oak. It has a floral bouquet of mainly black fruit with veins of blue, all infused with iris and violet. The dense palate is quite structured on the entry, showing a veneer of dark chocolate and a touch of spearmint toward the grippy finish.
There is just enough reduction to hide all but the much more subtle wood and spice wisps. The round, delicious and velvet-textured middle weight flavors retain a lovely sense of detail and energy, all wrapped in a refined and again youthfully austere finish.
