Score 91/100 · Drink 2018-2035, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jul 2015

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2010 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château has a more backward, introspective bouquet compared to the 2009, the fruit a little darker with a light marine influence. The palate is nicely structured with a keen thread of acidity, the tannins a tad grittier in the mouth and white pepper littered over the masculine finish. This might last longer than the 2009 although it will need more bottle age. Tasted June 2015.

Medium red. Decadent aromas of raspberry, animal fur and smoke, along with saline and baked bread nuances. Chewy and energetic in the mouth, with raspberry and saline flavors complicated by an earthy element. Showing no signs of closing down.

The 2010 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château comes across as linear, intense and a touch closed in on itself. There is more depth and roundness in the mid-palate than the Colombière, with plenty of underlying energy to support years of highly enjoyable drinking.

The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Clos du Chateau comes across as linear, intense and a touch closed in on itself. There is more depth and roundness in the mid-palate than the Colombiere, with plenty of underlying energy to support years of highly enjoyable drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Louis-Michel Liger-Belair’s wines keep getting better. The improvement is less a reflection of the underlying vintages and more the result of the work the estate has done to convert their vineyards to biodynamic farming. These are some of the most unique and compelling wines being made anywhere in Burgundy. The house style emphasizes the weightless transparency, finesse and sweetness that only Pinot Noir (and perhaps Nebbiolo) is capable of. As good as the 2010s are, the 2009s have also turned out beautifully. I will report on those wines in the April issue.
