Score 90/100 · Drink 2018-2028, Neal Martin, May 2019

The 2011 Vosne-Romanée Village has a smooth and sensual bouquet that obliges coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing scents of crushed red cherry, strawberry and pressed white flowers. The aromatics feel cohesive and effortlessly bound together by the conspicuous oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, smooth and silky with ample red berry fruit and well-judged acidity. There is nothing pretentious about this Vosne-Romanée - just a really beautiful wine from Sébastien Cathiard. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.

Moderately saturated medium red. Cool aromas of black cherry and licorice. Juicy and on the lean side but with good purity and cut to its peppery berry and spice flavors. The Cathiards now have five village parcels in Vosne-Romanee, ranging in age from 25 to 70 years.

The 2011 Vosne-Romanee Village has a very precise, stony bouquet with dark-cherry fruit infused with forest-floor aromas that gently unfolds in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with black pepper on the opening. It displays fine balance, but shows just a little too much wood towards the slightly herbaceous finish. Drink now-2022. Sebastian Cathiard kindly offered two or three examples of the 2011 vintage after tasting through his 2012s at the domaine. Importer: Le Serbet Wines (Becky Wassermann Selection) and through Frederick Wildman (NY). Also several importers in the UK including OW Loeb, Berry Brothers & Rudd, Justerini & Brooks and others.

Quite low key and seems quite severe after the exuberance of the 2012s. (JR)
