Double decanted. A bit darker than the much younger vintages. Round and smooth. Lip-smacking and satisfying but not perhaps as subtle as some of the 2023s. Solid pleasure. But good freshness. Lots still to come! (JR)

The 2012 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a vibrant bouquet that is cut from a similar cloth to the 2016, but there is more precision and control. Lavender and tomato vine, just as I found a couple of years ago, continue to infuse the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry and fine depth, not quite as detailed as before but it feels persistent on the finish. Very fine.

The 2012 Echézeaux Grand Cru courtesy of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has a wonderful nose with vibrant red fruit, tomato vine and hints of lavender. This is understated for Louis-Michel’s wines, but that plays to its advantage. The palate displays exquisite balance, building in intensity with aeration, pristine and chiselled to the finest detail on the finish. This is an outstanding wine at a decade old.

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Echézeaux Grand Cru from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has a slightly disjointed nose at first, but it melds together nicely in the glass, revealing pure blackberry and raspberry fruit, heather and fresh mint notes with aeration. There is focus and intensity here that builds before you. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, very well-judged acidity, cohesive and voluminous with a very precise finish that indicates some very clever, judicious winemaking. This is an Echézeaux from the top drawer, confirming previous bottles that have excelled.
