Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses from Comte de Vogüé has a quintessential “Amoureuses” bouquet with opulent and generous black cherries and blueberry aromas, distant scents of oak vanillin developing in the glass. This is very floral and perfumed. The palate is medium-bodied with very lithe and supple tannins. The acidity is well judged and it is blessed with a very satin-like, harmonious finish that demonstrates great persistence. This does not quite match up to the example I tasted last year, but I suspect that it will begin to blossom in 2-3 years.

Deep, bright red. Subtle, pure nose offers black raspberry, black cherry, mint, menthol and a hint of citrus skin. Wonderfully silky and sweet but the black fruit flavors come off more savory than sugary owing to the wine's strong limestone character. Finishes sappy, uncompromisingly dry and very long, with firm tannins and lovely mineral and floral lift.

Firm yet tender on the nose. Aroma is fighting to have itself heard. Quite sumptuous but very firm – much more tannin than most others. Racy and confident but long term. Millet’s edge and black fruits are here all right. Long. (JR)

This is notably more deeply colored with a more pronounced floral character to the exceptionally spicy, pure and stony aromas that feature notes of violets, plum and cassis. There is a beguiling sense of freshness to the middle weight flavors that possess an ultra-sophisticated mouth feel as there is a lovely sense of refinement to the fine-grained tannins that are supporting the beautifully complex mineral-driven and well-balanced finish. This should reward well mid to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2021+
