Starting with the NV Pleiades Old Vines XXVIII, it's a blend of Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Viognier, and Petite Sirah, with a handful of other varieties as well. It's made in a vibrant, deliciously complex style and offers ample red plum and cherry fruit as well as cigar, baking spices, and flowery incense-like aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, round, and sweetly fruited, with a clean, dry finish, drink this pleasure-bent red any time over the coming 4-5 years or so.

A non-vintage blend of Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Viognier, Zinfandel, and Syrah (just to name a few), the NV Pleiades Old Vineyard XXVI is a charming, forward, delicious wine that has a singular character in its dried red fruits, dried earth, herbes de Provence, and cured meat-like aromas and flavors. Silky, medium-bodied, and elegant on the palate, with plenty of sweet fruit, it has bright acidity and is going to age surprisingly well.

Pale ruby. What fun – so different from the California norm with its development and richness and Grenache-like delicacy. Great to know you can come across such uniqueness for less than £30 a bottle. Thank goodness Sean T exists. (JR)

Bottled in April 2014. Sangiovese, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Mourvèdre. Usually two or three years old. Pale ruby. Really interesting blend of chocolatey sweetness and dried herbs. So much more interesting than yet another international varietal. Lovely and not that expensive. Very full. (JR)
