Score 87/100 · Drink 1993-2008, Robert Parker, Jan 1997

The 1988 La Sizeranne is a soft but still highly concentrated, outstanding Hermitage. It suffers only in comparison with the other-worldly 1989. The bouquet is slightly more floral and includes the scent of violets to go along with the super ripe aromas of cassis and toasty oak. Generously endowed, full-bodied, but softer and more evolved and approachable than the 1989, this gorgeously made Hermitage should drink beautifully for the next 10-15 years. Last tasted 10/93.
