The 1987 Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial was produced with 74% Tempranillo, 13% Mazuelo, 10% Garnacha and 3% Graciano that matured in tank for five months followed by 34 months in American oak barrels. It was bottled in February 1991 with 12.6% alcohol, 6.5 grams of acidity and 0.68 grams of volatile acidity. The wines from this era (1980s) feel a little lighter and with wild acidity, and they have a nicer nose and a very austere palate without the depth and complexity of the previous decades.
