Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2039, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2018

The 1999 Corton Renardes is dense and powerful, as wines from this site often are, but also decidedly rustic, especially in comparison to the 2010 that precedes it in this tasting. A host of game, smoke, dried herbs, autumn leaves, licorice, menthol and exotic spice notes abound. The 1999 is at once very ripe in feel and also lacking in the finesse that runs through so many of these wines. Time in the glass does not materially change things.

Mid blueish crimson. And much more serious at this stage than the 2010 Corton-Les Renardes. Broad and rich but not that persistent. Seems a little simple relative to the Côte de Nuits grands crus. Notably, admirably, fresh finish. Fine tannins still lurking underneath the sweet fruit. (JR)

The 1999 Corton-Renardes Grand Cru was the one wine in the range that seemed a little fatigued, offering up aromas of dried red berries, candied peel, sweet spices and camphor, with a light framing of new oak still in evidence. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, firm and chalky, without the multidimensional completeness and seamless integration that the domaine so routinely attains.
