Deep, brooding aromas of peach, menthol and vanilla. Large-scaled, rich and very ripe but classically dry, with complex, soil-inflected flavors of pineapple, minerals, white flowers and wet stone. The very long finish gives a palate-staining impression of extract. Both of these 2005 grand crus are superb.

Slightly more prominent wood with vanilla and oak spice hints frame elegant dried rose petal, peach and citrus aromas that merge into bigger and richer but not finer or more complex flavors that trade precision for more power. I very much like this but prefer the superior focus of the BBM.

Musky but pure aromas of stone fruits, lemon, hay, white flowers and minerals; smells concentrated. Then large-scaled, dense and superconcentrated; plenty bright but less aromatic today than the more showy Bienvenue. This superripe grand cru conveys a softer impression (the acidity here is actually 3.9 grams per liter, vs. 4.2 for the Bienvenue) without being at all flat. Pernot uses about 40% new oak for his two grand crus.
