75% Barossa Valley, 25% Eden Valley. Each parcel was hand-picked, crushed and destemmed and fermented separately in small stainless-steel open-top fermenters, some parcels with submerged caps. Twice daily pumpovers, skin contact 8–14 days. 20 months in barrel, 75% new fine-grain French oak hogsheads (300 litres), balance in older seasoned hogsheads. 3 years in bottle prior to release. Unfiltered. Mid crimson with bricky rim. Showing the complexity I was looking for on the 2018: still plenty of sweet black fruit, plus eucalyptus, black olives. On the palate, dark and savoury, the tannins polished and refined by the time in bottle. Gently woody/toasty on the finish. (JH)

Deep garnet-purple colored and profoundly scented of blueberry preserves, blackberry tart and chocolate box intermingled with an undercurrent of star anise, coffee, rare beef and tar, the full-bodied 2010 Eligo Shiraz is richly fruited with layers of opulent, berry preserve and spice cake flavors supported by a solid foundation of firm, velvety tannins and balanced acid. It finishes with outstanding persistence. Approachable now, it should drink best 2016 to 2028+. Imported by Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA; www.oldbridgecellars.com

Bright purple. Potent black and blue fruit aromas are brightened by notes of smoky minerals, cracked pepper and fresh flowers. Rich but focused and pure, offering vibrant blueberry and boysenberry flavors and suave vanilla and floral pastille qualities. Supple and broad on a long, gently tannic finish that leaves allspice and dark fruit preserve notes behind.
