Tasting notes
Clone P58. The topsoil, silty clay loam, runs to a depth of about 20–30 cm over red ferrosols typical of the region. 33-year-old vines. Hand-picked on 18 March and whole-bunch pressed to small- and large-format oak, 25% new (puncheons). The juice then underwent an ambient-yeast fermentation and malolactic conversion (68%). After 10 months of oak-ageing, the wine was bottled and filtered. TA 10 g/l, pH 3.12. Exotically spiced pear fruit. Mealy oak impression. Generously mouth-filling, deep and rounded. If the technical notes are correct, this has very high acidity, but it is perfectly integrated. Chewy, whole-hearted and still refined. Long, long finish. (JH)

From the P58 Tree Block, planted in 1992, 180 m. 100% P58 clone. Hand-picked 18 March 2022. Whole-bunch pressed straight to a mix of small and large oak barrels. Spontaneous fermentation in new (25%) and used French oak barrels and aged for 11 months in oak. Natural malo (68%). TA 7.4 g/l, pH 3.1. Blossomy layers. Orange blossom and a haze of floral softness that doesn’t hide the brightness and intensely orange zest of the ripe citrus fruit: satsuma, tangerine, satsuma peel. Dusty graphite caesura. A wine that has the defined, tangible colour and intensity and texture of oranges but also something intangible, softer: lunar haze and lunar energy. (TC)
