The 1966 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru has a little funk on the nose, but that ebbs away and soon, it becomes so precise and vibrant, hints of orange zest and white truffle mixed with grapefruit and lemon thyme. The palate is tensile and surfeited with energy, again, heightened by a killer line of acidity and brilliant salinity. Very long on the finish that is initially stern but loosens up after an hour in the glass. Magnificent. Tasted at Christie's Bouchard Père's pre-auction dinner at Noble Rot Mayfair.
