The 2010 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard, from a warmer vintage, is nearing its peak expression and will hold another decade. It has a medium to deep garnet color, and on the nose, there is a core of wild berries complemented by tones of old cigars, prosciutto, dried flowers and fried thyme. The medium-bodied palate is expressive and savory, with a fine balance of warm fruit and tones of maturity. It has supple, powdery tannins, fresh acidity and a long, detailed finish.

A bigger, richer wine than the Turner Vineyard, the 2010 Syrah Colson Canyon offers a heady mix of black (and some blue) fruits, violets, bay leaf and charcoal. This deep, sexy, incredibly hedonistic beauty is firing on all cylinders today, is loaded with sweet fruit, and will keep for another 7-8 years easily.

I continue to love the 2010s from Santa Barbara and Tensley’s 2010 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is up with my favorite vintage of this cuvee to date. Possessing a touch of Hermitage style in its pepper, smoke tobacco, bay leaf and blackcurrant aromatics, it’s rich, sweetly fruited and unabashedly California on the palate. Deep, full-bodied and unctuous, with plenty of underlying tannic structure, it’s still youthful and fresh, and will see its 20th birthday in fine form.

Bright purple. Expansive aromas of black and blue fruit preserves, potpourri and violet, with smoke and Indian spice nuances adding complexity very syrah. Big and lush but lively, offering potent cassis and blueberry flavors complicated by star anise and bitter chocolate. Gentle tannins add shape to the strikingly long, sappy finish.
