Shimmering red. Fresh red fruit, blood orange and potpourri aromas are complemented by suggestions of sandalwood and baking spices. Lithe and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet raspberry, red currant and orange marmalade flavors that show strong back-end power. Discreet tannins add shape to a very long, focused finish that leaves sappy red fruit and spice notes behind. As usual, this is one hell of an entry-level bottling, perhaps even more so this vintage.

Pale ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills opens with woodsmoke, crushed pink peppercorn, garrigue, dusty earth and dried leaves aromas with notes of cranberries, wild blackberries, red berries and a framing of cinnamon spice. It’s light-bodied and elegantly styled with spicy fruits, a soft frame and juicy freshness, finishing long.
