Score 87/100 · Drink 2019-2024, Neal Martin, Oct 2019
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, which comes from 2.2-hectares of vine, has a lively bouquet with superior definition than the Charmes-Chambertin, although there is a confected patina that becomes more pronounced with aeration and ends up dominating the fruit and terroir expression. The palate is ripe and slightly chewy on the entry, a light metallic tincture with some attenuation towards the heavy-handed finish. Tasted from an ex-domaine bottle in London.
