The 2017 Vosne-Romanée En Orveau 1er Cru has a very floral nose that rather occludes the terroir expression and even the fruit profile. The palate is refined with good body, a fine bead of acidity and just the right amount of dryness. Sapid and quite persistent in the mouth; once that floral component on the nose recedes, this will be a lovely Vosne-Romanée. This is very mercurial, especially aromatically. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Tank sample. Mid cherry red. Wild-cherry fruit. Rather lightweight on the palate but better that than in any way forced. Firm, dry tannins balanced by the fruit. Needs more time to become more expressive, I think. (JH)
