Tasting notes
The second vintage of this Brut Nature made entirely Methode Champenoise from a single vineyard of Viura, the 2020 Conde Valdemar Finca Alto Cantabria Gran Anada Vinedo Singular gets three years of aging in bottle before disgorgement. Floral and salty in salinity, it’s the only sparkling in Rioja that has the specification of a Gran Anada, with finessed, light-bodied acidity and an herbal character that leads to a finishing touch of pastry. This beautiful Spanish sparkler is worth seeking out and enjoying on the spot and for another 15-20 years.

Cream, cooked apple, hazelnut, and vanilla pod that becomes stronger throughout the palate and on the finish. Moderate acidity and full body with lovely chewy phenolic weight. Less overtly oaky than the most traditional of white Riojas, but still recognisably of the genre. (RH)
