1988 Barbeito Madeira Sercial

From a site very close to the sea owned by one of Barbeito's suppliers of grapes. A broker with 11 children and 70 grandchildren who died early this century. Owner and winemaker Ricardo Diogo Vasconcelos de Freitas observed, 'He was in love with my mother'. Bottled July 2018. Pale orange. Walnut and butter icing on the nose, as though covered in a veil of icing sugar. Massive acid! A saline quality and real tingle. A great aperitif? (JR)
