Score 16/20 · Drink 1960-2005, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2016

The colour was such a dark crimson it was difficult to believe that this really was a 1920. There was lots of volatile acidity on the other hand and it tasted almost as though it contained some Cabernet Sauvignon. Roy argued that in those days rioja notoriously contained lots of Ribera del Duero which would of course be much deeper-coloured than genuine rioja. (JR)
