Still has some of the Prüm fumy character, smoky but full of citrus too. Ripe lemon and peach, surprisingly mouth-filling and rich. Sweet, peachy and long. Lush but still fresh. (JH)

Fresh, precise and delicate, though, like the 2013 predecessor, still reductive and with nutmeg flavors on the nose, the 2012 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese (AP 0813) is a sweet and juicy, piquant and fleshy wine with a good intensity and a salty finish. Bottled with 8.5% alcohol (1% more than in 2013) this is a more intense, precise and still young Spätlese with very good potential.

The 2012 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese (AP #17 13) is more cool and mineral/stony on the nose than the Himmelreich Spätlese, but also intensely fruity at the moment, offering ripe peach, mango and pineapple aromas and crushed chocolate. Gorgeously rich, juicy and piquant on the palate, this lush and sensual Riesling seems riper and slightly sweeter, but also more intense compared with the Himmelreich. Its persistent finish is nicely mineral and salty on the aftertaste. This is a rich and potent wine with great potential.

A little stinky nose – very different from the Graacher Himmelreich. So crunchy and timid and in reserve. Stony but very backward. Needs such a lot of time! Very clean and brisk on the finish. (JR)
