Tasting notes
De Montille’s 2008 Vosne-Romanee Les Malconsorts Cuvee Christiane is totally fabulous. Weightless yet intense, the Cuvee Christiane shows off explosive aromatics and beautifully delineated fruit in a display of inimitable class. The wine literally floats on the palate in the way only Burgundy can. A silky, textured finish rounds things out in style. Burgundy connoisseurs know that the Cuvee Christiane is made from a plot that lies within La Tache, and that was once considered part of that great, historic vineyard. De Montille used 100% whole clusters for the Cuvee Christiane. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033. Importer: Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel. (516) 327-0808

(Outstanding)<br /> Here the nose is spicier still with copious Vosne-style spice, dried rose petal, hoisin and soy nuances, both of which continue onto the supple and round medium weight flavors that are graceful, classy and long, all wrapped in a less obviously powerful finish where there is even better length. The presence of the stems is discernible on the backend but overall, this is an extremely stylish effort.
(100% whole clusters; from 80-, 45- and 27-year-old vines) Bright, deep red. Much less expressive on the nose than the "regular" Malconsorts. Lower in pitch and less fruity now, with brooding soil tones of smoky earth and herbs. Compellingly spherical, ripe and classically dry Malconsorts with dark, brooding, smoky flavors. This very deep but youthfully unforthcoming wine is really dramatically different today from the basic cuvee Finishes with outstanding persistence.

About the producer

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
