Tasting notes
Sourced from two acres on Howell Mountain, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Sentinel Ridge features scents of pencil shavings, sage and bay leaf, set against a backdrop of cassis fruit. Full-bodied and softly dusty, it's still noticeably Howell Mountain in structure but tamed somewhat, presumably by Bevan's practice of early, thorough leaf-plucking to expose the fruit. Yet it still has a certain mountain austerity when compared to Bevan's plush valley-floor wines.

Gorgeous cassis, darker currants, violets, chocolate, and black olives emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Sentinel Ridge, a full-bodied, rich, powerful mountain Cabernet from Bevan. Howell Mountain wines can have some austerity in their tannins, yet this is beautifully polished and seamless, with just about perfect balance as well as integrated tannins and acidity. Give it just a handful of years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 15-20.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Sentinel Ridge is one of the many highlights in this range. It possesses fabulous depth and tons of sheer character. Inky dark fruit, gravel, game, scorched earth, licorice and leather give the 2018 layers of savory intensity and nuance that work so well here. All the elements come together effortlessly.
